Project: Labels

Yesterday I met with an old client of mine, one of my very first, who connected with me via Linkedin. Another example of how social media helps businesses. First we were going to meet at Dunkin Donuts but that changed to meeting at her house. Lovely home by the way. We talked for a bit and went over what I will be doing, creating labels for her beauty product line. The client’s name is Danielle Knox.

Award-winning journalist Danielle Knox returns to her South Florida roots as host of The Balancing Act on Lifetime Television.

Knox, a Berkeley, California native, had called South Florida home for many years before being offered a news anchor job in Atlanta.

“South Florida is home to me, Knox says. “Atlanta was a great experience, but I’m a beach and palm trees girl at heart. When the opportunity came to return to South Florida to become a full-time host of The Balancing Act, I absolutely couldn’t resist.”

South Florida is especially near and dear to Knox’s heart because it’s where she met her husband and where all three of her children were born.

In addition, as one of the original hosts of The Balancing Act, this opportunity felt like coming home in more ways than one. “I’m a wife and working mother trying to balance it all,” Knox says. The Balancing Act speaks to me and what’s happening in my life right now. It’s a perfect fit.”

Danielle has a vast range of experience anchoring and reporting for TV stations throughout the country. She co-anchored the morning newscast for the CBS affiliate WFOR-TV in Miami, FL., and its sister station, UPN 33 Morning News and UPN 33 News at 10. She also anchored and reported for WTVJ-TV, WB39 and WDZL-TV in Miami. Prior to moving to South Florida, she anchored and reported for WVIT-TV in Hartford, CT., and KTVE-TV in Monroe, LA. The Berkeley, California native graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a B.A. in Mass Communications and received her Master’s degree in Radio and Television from San Francisco State University.

Danielle also owns her own skin and hair care company called Play Pretty Beauty. She is married with 3 beautiful little boys who inspire her every day.

Play Pretty Beauty is the product that I will be doing the labels for. This is going to be a very fun project because I love beauty products. I have some of them to try out and I’ll make a blog review about it later.

Loreal EverSleek Smoothing Deep Conditioner

Hey guys. I was reading one of Michelle Phan’s post on her website about the treat hair and she talked about this deep conditioner called Loreal EverSleek Smoothing Deep Conditioner. She’s all about being as natural as possible when it comes to skin and hair so I wanted to check it out on other sites. This is what I found below;

EverSleek Smoothing Deep Conditioning Treatment is an intensive, rich treatment that nourishes hair to control frizz and improve manageability. Natural argan, sunflower and olive oils penetrate the hair fiber to smooth and soothe without weighing hair down. Hair is left soft, shiny and virtually frizz-free. Deep, rich conditioning that nourishes even damaged, sensitized hair. Free of harsh sulfates and heavy silicones.

• Sulfate, paraben & silicone free
• 100% vegan – formula not tested on animals, no animal byproducts
• With argan, sunflower & olive oils
• Nourishes hair for 48-hour frizz control
• Leaves hair shiny & manageable

Directions: After using EverSleek Shampoo, apply and comb through wet hair. Massage and leave in for 3-5 minutes. Rinse. Recommended for weekly use.

So it’s easy to say that I have a new deep conditioner. She says that it’s suppose to be used once a week. Another thing I found out over the week is that it would seems that Walgreens doesn’t want to carry renpure argen oil anymore. *sad face* I don’t know why. I found the conditioners are clearance, great price but that means that it’s the end for it. I see that they still sale it online but I don’t want to have a shipping fee. *sigh* I went to Whole foods and found some natural shampoos and conditioners I could use but I feel as if I’m cheating. But is it cheating when they don’t have it available around you? *shrugs* Anyway, if there is a way that I can still use the product I will but since I don’t at the moment, I have to look else where. *Once again, sad face*

Chomping it off

Hello everyone. My most recent post was about the hair product Argen Oil that I’ve been using. It’s been working great. The only problem is that ever since I’ve taken out the twist, I have clumps of tangled hair. I can’t comb them out. So I decided to just cut it all off! My hair will be really short but it’ll  grow back. It’s hair after all. In the future I want to my hair to be styled like this:

I wanted my hair to be like that in the past but my hair was so long that I couldn’t part with it. Now that I have the chance to start over, I’m going to try it out once my hair is long enough. Oh yes and since I’m cutting my hair, I’m going natural as well. Now harsh chemicals. All natural products. I’m already starting off with the shampoo and conditioner that I’m using. Anyone else have any other suggestions for me for hair products, Thanks!

Renpure Hair Product Trail

For a long time, I’ve had twists in my hair and I just took them out. I want to relax my hair but it hasn’t been touched in so long that it’s all kinky and it’s mostly new growth. I wanted a good shampoo and conditioner that would treat and soften it so that when I go to the hair salon, it would be a very painful experience. *shivers* So I went online and researched what products would be good for my hair. I found out that the products that I’m using now is actually damaging my hair.

When shopping for hair conditioners, read the ingredient label on the product. You may find that two different products have the exact same ingredients and the only difference is the price tag. Avoid gel-based conditioners, as they can weigh down and dry out your hair. According to Treasured Locks, you should also avoid conditioners that contain isopropyl alcohol, petrolatum and mineral oils, sulfates and any parabens in the list of ingredients. These substances can make your hair dry, clog the pores of your scalp or may cause an allergic reaction.Read more:

I read on multiple websites that Alcohol is a HUGE no-no. It breaks and dries out your hair. So I looked at products that has natural ingredients. When a products says natural ingredients, please look at the ingredients because it could still contain a harm chemical. For example, Jason Natural Cosmetics Fragrance Free Daily Conditioner: For All Hair Types. It says that it’s natural but look at the ingredients.

Aqua/Water/Eau , Emulsifying Wax , Behentrimonium Methosulfate , Cetearyl Alcohol , Amodimethicone , Betaine Behenyl Alcohol , Aloe Vera (Aloe Barbadensis) Leaf JuiceAloe Vera , Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower ExtractChamomile , Ascophyllum Nodosum (Brown Algae) ExtractBrown Algae , Vegetable Glycerin , Centrimonium Chloride , PanthenolVitamin B5 , Polyquaternium 10 , Glycereth 2 Cocoate , Benzoic Acid , Citric Acid

It has two types of Alcohol and Glycerin. It’s the same statement for Trans Fats in food. Just because it says no Trans Fats doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have it. So I continued my search until I came across a product called Renpure. I read up on it and I went to the website, because you can’t get all the information you need from a generic store website. Here’s what I found.

Conspiracy theory…. ? Not really. It’s more like trying to make a buck without any concern for the well being of the average consumer. That’s been the mind set of many companies out there selling personal care products still today. It sickens us… literally. So we as a family have decided to do something about it. We’ve developed a new line of hair care products FREE from potentially harmful ingredients such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Propylene Glycol, Parabens, DEA, TEA, colors and dyes. We’ve been in this industry for a long time and we’ve made some pretty important changes. It is our hope that you will take the time to learn more about this and make a conscious decision to reduce your exposure and your family’s exposure to synthetic chemicals.

They also say that their products aren’t tested on animals. Check them out at I’m interested in the Argan Oil collection.

Our new Argan Oil Treatment line has a unique structure that penetrates the hair cuticle, reducing friction & breakage during washing & styling, providing a natural micro-barrier that protects from styling heat & UV rays, resulting in amazing shine with a silky-soft feel.

They sale them at walgreens for $6. I’m going to give it a trail and see how it goes. I’ll update on the status and see if they are worthy of recommendation. So far yes based off the information I gather.

Renpure Line of Argan Oil Hair Care Products

Merlot and Garnier

For a while now, I haven’t been taking care of my skin like I should. I use to be a fanatic about it. My favorite store was Bath and Body Works. Someone would have to pull me away from that store because I would drop $40 on different body washes and lotions. I guess it’s because of my job that I don’t have the time like I use to. I’ve been tired lately and rushing out the door all the time for work.  Now I’m trying to get back into the habit. I went to Walgreens and looked over the products they had for your face. I came across a product called Merlot 3-in-1 Blemish/Acne Treatment. It was on sale for a good price so I grabbed it.

Next I wanted a moisturizer for my face after I washed it because my face gets dry afterwards. I use to use Olay and Walgreens brand night and day screams. They worked and I was happy with them but when I went to Walgreens, I couldn’t find the night cream. So I asked a sales associate, a really nice lady who saw me in distressed, and she showed me a product from Garnier called Garnier Nutritioniste Nutritioniste Moisture Rescue Refreshing Gel-Cream.
